MyShot: The American Lung Association’s New Flu Awareness Campaign

Oct 31, 2018 | Kimberly Sharpe-Scott

The American Lung Association, in collaboration with Sanofi Pasteur, recently launched a new consumer flu awareness campaign, MyShot. Many adults ages 50 and older live with a chronic health condition, such as lung disease, heart disease, or diabetes, which puts them at increased risk for serious flu-related complications. Yet, despite these potential dangers, vaccination rates for those 50 years of age and older have stagnated, hovering around 45 percent for adults ages 50 – 64 and 65 percent for adults ages 65 and older. The MyShot campaign highlights the dangers of influenza for people 50 years of age and older and particularly for people with one or more chronic medical condition. MyShot features personal stories of medical experts and adults 50 years of age and older from various walks of life discussing their firsthand experiences with the flu and why they prioritize getting vaccinated.

The MyShot campaign will run through the flu season, and local health departments may use the available resources to communicate with medical providers and community members about the importance of flu prevention among adults 50 years of age and older and those living chronic medical conditions.
