The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) has released the Sexually Transmitted Disease Surveillance, 2017 report, which shows that rates of chlamydia, gonorrhea, and syphilis increased for the fourth consecutive year, with gonorrhea and syphilis rates being the highest since the early 1990s. Further, new data show that congenital syphilis cases have more than doubled since 2013, reaching a total of 918 cases in 2017 alone.
