On April 16, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) published an online viral hepatitis surveillance report entitled Viral Hepatitis Surveillance, United States, 2016. This report is supported by ongoing systematic collection and analysis of data that reflect the health status of a community or population, including:
- The most recent incidence data, based on reports from state health departments through the National Notifiable Disease Surveillance System about incidence of viral hepatitis A; acute, chronic, and perinatal hepatitis B, and acute and chronic hepatitis C infections
- Data about chronic hepatitis B and C infections from the 7 Enhanced Surveillance Sites that were funded from Nov 2012 through Oct 2016
- Mortality data from the National Vital Statistics System
