NACCHO recently hosted a webinar on “Approaches to Advancing HIV Prevention and Care,” the first in a three-part series on Implementing Model Practices in Your Community. The webinar featured the following:
- The Florida Department of Health in Okaloosa County (DOH-Okaloosa) discussed their efforts to integrate pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP) into their clinical services. Their approach and resources—including an implementation plan, clinical standard operating procedures and clinical guidelines, staff toolkits, and documentation guides for providers and for nurses—have become the model for local health departments across Florida, more than 20 of which have utilized their tools and/or sought guidance directly from DOH-Okaloosa.
- The Florida Department of Health in Broward County (DOH-Broward) shared their approach to linking HIV positive pregnant women to care, eliminating perinatal transmission of HIV, and ensuring that all HIV exposed newborns are screened after birth. Through improved surveillance, public health detailing, disease intervention, and case management, DOH-Broward is closing the gaps in HIV prevention and care for women and newborns.
The webinar recording is now available for viewing.
