Heavy metals such as arsenic, lead, cadmium, mercury, and others are present in certain foods. At high levels, metals can be toxic especially to children. The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) established a workgroup of food safety experts to advise the FDA about how to protect all consumers from these metals when present in foods.
